One–Minute Tests

The One-Minute Tests include the One-Minute Reading Test, The One-Minute Adding Test and One- Minute Subtracting Test.

The HSRC was requested to restandardize these tests together with the standardization of the Individual Scale for General Scholastic Aptitude (ISGSA). The One-Minute Reading Test was first adapted by replacing a few outdated words with more suitable words. Standard instructions were written for administering the three tests.

During the standardization of the ISGSA the tests were administered to the same school-going children in the sample for the ISGSA: English and Afrikaans speaking children of the education department of the former House of Representatives and the former Free State, Natal and Transvaal education departments. The reading test was done in the testees’ language of instruction.

Norms were determined by plotting on a graph the raw score total for a SA scoer of 100 for each age interval. Drawing a curve which linked the points and reading off a test age for each possible raw score total. Age range: 6 to 16 years.
